Release Information:
Bore Da!
Here is the current BETA version release of 'South West Wales' route for Train Simulator 2012/Railworks3,
numbered v3.1beta/17 November 2011.
This has been tested on TS2012/RW3 in both 'Legacy' and 'TSX' modes but not in previous versions of Railworks.
This version is not optimised for TS2013 but may work?!
[NB. On installation the route folder will not overwrite previous versions.]
The area of coverage is the South West of Wales (Margam to Whitland). Some areas in this version are incomplete but included to show the scale of the route.
PLEASE NOTE: Support for previous versions has now been withdrawn with immediate effect.
Changes in release v3.1beta/17 November 2011:
TS2012/RW3 friendly (see above)!
Authentic station and yard lighting (TSX Mode only).
Assets file #7 required.
Revised signal/track work in some areas to improve gameplay.
Scenery enhancements, particularly between Carmarthen and Whitland.
Dedicated, new scenarios for TS2012 included (may not be useable with TS2013).
Note: To ensure authentic DMU usage the following PayWare rolling stock has been used:
Class 150 (RSC) and Class 153 (JustTrains).
Release information for v1.5beta/01 October 2011 (for Railworks2) is here:
Important: As well as the supplied 'default' assets you will require the following Payware routes to run this route:
Bristol - Exeter
[Available from Just Trains]
Glasgow Airport Rail Link
[Available from Steam]
Edinburgh - Glasgow
[Available from Steam]
Isle of Wight
[Available from Just Trains]
[Note: There may be 'payware' rolling stock in some scenarios!]
Additionally the SAD route is required for scenery assets used by SWW. This has been updated since the last issue (in the 'Scenery Assets #0' file below) and new set of SAD assets can be found in 'Scenery Assets #5'.
Required UKTS Library Files:
UK Colour Light Signals:
In the library there is a set of upgrade files for the default 'UK Colour Light Signals'
(UKTS_27098) which is highly recomended for this route. Thanks to Stephen Dark for this.
Included with these are three sets of ground signals (known as 'Position Light Signals' in the real world). To maintain authenticity for the SWW route you
must use the file set marked '
Optional Shunt Signal Patch - Subsidiary'.
The current version of UKTS_27098 v1.2 (included with permission from the provider, Steve Dark) can be found below in 'Scenery Assets #5' and has already had the ground signals added. Any further updates can be found in the library.
NOTE: It is important when you choose to use this upgrade that you consult the provided manual for very important installation and onward use instructions as Steam will overwrite files on update!
UKTS Freeware Asset Packs (
Rolling Stock):
Please be aware that if these packs are installed and then uninstalled some rolling stock used by scenarios in this route (and others!) may be deleted from your Railworks/Assets folder.
The route files are supplied in both .ZIP and RWP formats, scenery asset files in .ZIP only. Please see later for instructions how to
install these.
More information about the assets used and their providers is included with the route files.

Swaping stock assets in scenarios: You may have to change some stock items in the scenarios to match those in your own shed. RW_Tools is ideal for this operation.

Operational Information:
The single line through Gowerton: From an operational point of view, its operated under track circuit block regulations so trains are just signalled onto the section depending on their timetabled priority, whilst the other services wait at the junction for the single line to become vacated.
SWW does not have many warnings for speed restrictions, nor many actually speed boards at the point of change. This is Prototypical of the real route. I dont know whether we are being rationed down here in South Wales but very rarely do we seem to get a speed board in each direction....sometimes not at all. Its all down to route knowledge for us drivers so in light of that, my first priority is to ensure the speeds are consistent and accurate throughout the route.
The District Line (from Briton Ferry (Cwrt Sart Junction) to LLandeilo Jn/ Trostre) is closed until further notice pending engineering works!
Here is a document set outlining the 'Breaking Points' as used on the route. This information should be used for reference only and is not for use in the real World! Download the Zip file from here:
SWW Breaking PointsThe archive file contains three types of documents: MS Word Doc, WordPad RTF and HTML for your browser. Choose which is best for you!

INSTALLATION:
Route Files:
Important - Please remove any previous version of the route from your Railworks/Content/Routes folder either manually or with 'Packet Manager'. The folder that should be removed is named: adbf2d4d-fcd0-4c96-912d-c7fc5874be70 although, on installation, the new route folder will not overwrite previous versions but one folder in Assets will be!.
Note: Always keep a back-up of previous installations!
The
current route file is supplied in two ways:-
1] ~ In .ZIP format which should be extracted to a local directory and manually transferred to the railworks/content/routes folder.
2] ~ In an RWP file for use with the 'Packet Manager' within the Railworks launcher.
Scenery Asset Files:
The
scenery asset files are supplied in .ZIP format only and should be extracted to a local directory and manually transferred to the railworks/assets folder, overwriting where requested. Alternatively you can create a dedicated Assets folder for SWW. This method entails the copying of Stock assets from the orginal assets folder (which may have been renamed, for example, Assets.ORG) to enable the provided scenarios to work?
For the latest version only #6 is required provided you have installed all the others for previous versions. These files are located
below.
We are sorry that we are not now able to offer any support for previous versions than the current.

Rolling Stock Assets:
Note: To ensure authentic DMU usage the following PayWare rolling stock has been used:
Class 150 (RSC) and Class 153 (JustTrains).
These are
not included with any route files, please see above (Additional Information).
However there are some new scenarios that are based on passenger timetables around the year 2002 when operations were by Alphaline.
To accomodate this a set of Class 158 units has been published in the UKTS Library and can be found here:-
Class 158 DMSLA & DMSLB - Alphaline Wales & Borders Trains (4 versions) Circa 2001-2003. (UKTS_27273)

It is highly recommended that these are installed prior to running these particular scenarios!
For information these units are regularly seen on this route (in the real world):-
